Alvin was a leader with BSA Troop 229. As the scoutmaster for the troop, I wanted to share condolences to the family and share a fond memory of Alvin. I joined the troop in 2005 when my son bridged over from Cub Scouts to the Boy Scout program. In the troop trailer, there was a stainless steel box and I asked Alvin what it was. He said it was an oven so he proceeded to fire up a bed of hot coals, set the box over it, and baked a cake in it. The scouts came in from a day of activities and saw the cake... well, it didn't last very long but I did get a piece of cake and it was just as good as any cake cooked in a regular kitchen. Alvin cooked biscuits, cornbread, and cakes in that oven many times over the years and there were never any leftovers.

As you all know, Alvin, was the type of person that would go out of his way if you asked him to do something. My mom and I would wait for Alvin, Wendy, Zack and David to come visit us in Connecticut to have ¨the Handyman¨ of our family fix everything that needed fixing and we gave him a long list. Alvin did everything. He liked to keep busy and he did it with a smile.
We are going to miss Alvin very much. We have missed his friendly hellos over the phone to wish us a happy birthday or on the holidays. He was a wonderful son in law, brother in law, and uncle. He loved our children and they loved Uncle Alvin.
Even though we didn't get to see Alvin, Wendy and the boys often, the time we did spend together was fun and special and will be cherished forever.
Thank you again, Alvin for being the best brother-in-law, son-in-law to our mother, husband to my sister, loving father to Zack and David and a pillar in your community. We love you.

People at Coil are sharing stories about Alvin. One told that whenever the song Spirit in the Sky would come on the radio Alvin would have to dance! The song goes, “ When I die and they lay me to rest Gonna go to the place that is best. When I lay me down to die , Goin’ up to the spirit in the sky. That’s where I’m gonna go when I die, when they lay me to rest, Gonna go to the place that is best. Gotta have a friend in Jesus so he recommends you to the Spirit in the Sky”. Pretty awesome lyrics.
