Obituary of Loretta J. Garling
Loretta J. Garling, 84, of Monticello, IN passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello. She was born on September 15, 1937 in Crown Point, IN to the late Roscoe and Esther [Clerget] Elston. After graduating from South Port High School, Loretta attended Ball State University. She married the love of her life, Melvin A. Garling, June 14, 1956. Loretta later completed her Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Education at Purdue University. She retired in 2000 after being an elementary school teacher for 27 years. Loretta then participated in the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She especially enjoyed teaching 4th grade and Indiana History. Loretta was a longtime member of St. James Salem United Church of Christ, Francesville, IN, where she participated in the ladies guild, sang in the choir, directed the bell choir, and sponsored the youth group. She had a beautiful voice and belonged to the White County Chorus and Pulaski County Chorus for several years. She traveled to Europe and sang with the Pulaski County Chorus. Loretta enjoyed reading, history, traveling, and treasured spending time with her family. She was a very loving, giving person and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be from 1 – 2 PM EDT Friday, October 22, 2021 at St. James Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM EDT Friday, October 22, 2021 at St. James Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville with Rev. Nelda Seger officiating.
Burial will take place at St. James Salem Cemetery in Francesville.
Due to health reasons, the family respectfully requests that attendance be limited to those who have been fully vaccinated.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville.
