Our deepest condolences and love and prayers. Viola was such a wonderful neighbor and woman. She lived what her life was, giving and loving others. I remember when her and I made our own chicken and noodles for each other. I loved the fellowship and stories that day, (and the noodles lol).

Thank you for generous donations to the Emory ALS Center from:
Mike and Annette Sass
The Emory ALS Center has been conducting cutting-edge research on the treatment of ALS for many years under the excellent leadership of Dr. Jonathan Glass. They are currently conducting gene therapy research trials for the treatment of ALS. Viola’s son, Eric, and her niece, Patty Reutebuch, are both being treated and benefiting from this research. Viola’s son, Brian passed away from ALS in 2004 at age 46, and a cousin, Robert Scheffer passed away in 2007 at age 57. Through the dedication of the Emory team, we hope that one day ALS will be a treatable disease.

I am married to Viola and Joey's youngest son, Eric. I am very blessed to be part of this beautiful family and to share in Mom and Dad's love for their children. When I think of Mom Viola, I see a woman of faith who relied, unwavering, in God's providence, mercy and love; a wife who is devoted to her husband; a mother whose life is totally given to her children. Hers was a life of hard work, sacrifice, devotion and of prayer. I remember one story she told me when she was living with us here in Alabama. She said that, one day, someone asked her how she has managed all these years. Her response was, "Can't you see Jesus right here next to my shoulder?" What faith!!!
Mom embraced life! She used every gift God has given her to serve her family and her church. She was a great cook, a baker (from scratch, too), a quilter, a rug maker, a gardener, a carpenter (Dad's right hand). But her best title is MOTHER. She took great pride in her seven children. Thank you, Mom, for blessing me with one of your most precious gifts - Eric. Rest in Peace, Mom. We miss you already. Thank you for the life you lived for us. We cannot ask for a better place than HEAVEN for you. You have fulfilled God's mission for you here on earth!
