Dear Suzanne, Stefanie & Madeline,
I want to share my sincere and heartfelt condolences on the passing of Michael. I just don't have the right words to express my thoughts and feelings. So many fond memories have flooded back since I heard this sad news.
My life was forever enriched by spending so much time with all of you. A few memories have stood out in recent days. Our family was hosting Barbara, a young girl from Germany for the summer. She arrived, and within 48 hours we were all camping with your family in Turkey Run, sleeping in a teepee. It was her first impression of American life.
Your family took in Virginia & Carl when Gustav was born. The kids can still recite conversations they had with your family that night while they waited for news on the arrival of the new baby.
There were many other camping trips, vacations, day trips and adventures, countless dinners and lunches, as well as yard parties for birthdays or just because it was Saturday.
Mike was always willing to jump in and lend a hand, whether it was at my house or one of his neighbors. He even helped me hand dig a well at our little cabin in Walhalla! And then there was the Porter Volunteer Fire Department, which he was reluctant to join, and, fortunately for the PVFD and the town of Porter, he did get involved and was all in, very typical of Michael.
Always smiling and supportive, my friendship with Mike is something I have always held onto as special. As I think back to that time in my life with the Kiest family, what stands out in my memory, is the laughter, him joking, gently teasing and being endlessly supportive of all of us.
I send you love and peace and gratitude for sharing a wonderful man and so many memories with me and my family.
With deepest sympathy,
Dean Hultman

Dear Sue, Terry and All Mike's Kids- I met Mike almost 30 years ago on a big digging job in Illinois. I often wondered why this "Boston Guy" was able to get along so well with this outspoken, in your face, Get It Done - "Indiana Guy". We shared our Marine Corps background - and even though he didn't talk much about his time in Viet Nam - I know that he was immensely proud of his time in the Corps. He gave this Jarhead the benefit of the doubt - NOT that it stopped him from breaking my B's every chance he got. I'm sorry that I didn't get to wish him a Happy Marine Corps Birthday this year- but knowing what Mike was dealing with - I do believe he's in a better place. I know that his love for Sue was without limits. His lifelong partnership with Terry is the way I will always think of him. Great guy, husband, brother, Dad, Son In Law, businessman and friend. Rest in Peace my friend-Love Kevin Falvey

Its hard to convey how deeply we feel at Northern Indiana Mechanical about Mike’s passing. It’s just awful. It’s like a light has been extinguished that we know we’ll never get back.
Sue, I’m so sorry for your loss. My sincerest condolences to his family, his daughters, his granddaughters.

Mike was truly one of a kind. One of the funniest people I have ever met in my life. He hired me to work for the company when I was 19 years old and he always seemed to believe in me. He gave me a shot at a career when I was young and trying to get my life started and that’s something I will always appreciate. I have always felt a sense of pride to work for him and Terry. Mike went out of his way to say hello to me in the office, & would never hesitate to poke fun when we saw each other. I’m going to miss those jokes, & I’ll never forget them.
He had a way of brightening everybody’s day whenever we got to see him. You are missed dearly buddy. Love and prayers to the family.

Suzanne, I was very saddened to hear of Mike's passing. He was a great guy who adore his family. My heart breaks for you and the girls but I know together you will help one another get through this painful loss. No IN Mechanical was a client of mine before I retired from Centier. I always enjoyed meeting with Mike and Terry. They always made me laugh. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.
