Obituary of Margaret Victoria Ann Proud

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret Victoria  Ann (Young) Proud, “Vykke”, of Francesville, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on May, 28, 2022 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette, IN. She was born May 6th, 1968 in Hammond, IN to Gary Edward Daniel Sr. and Margaret Louise McMahan Young.

Vykke is predeceased by her father, Gary Edward Daniel Sr., her sister, Gaythee Lumapas, her step-father, Ollie Lockridge, her sister-in-law, Tammi Young and brother-in-law, Jeff Lockridge. Left to cherish her memory is her mother Margaret Young, her loving husband, Mike Proud, her children Christian Proud and Thomas (Tina Curtis) Proud and her grandson Michael Andrew Allen Proud. Her siblings Gary Young (Martha Boyd), Maralee Lockridge (Dan Sellers) and Gordon (Jenny) Young. She left behind many nieces, nephews and friends who were better for her presence.

Her family will remember her sense of honesty and sarcasm. Being a great storyteller, Vykke always had an anecdote or a joke to fit any occasion. She had a laser focus that could cut to the heart of a topic. This would help her in her work as a nurse, a profession she loved for over thirty years. Her sense of humor and determination allowed Vykke to act as a home health nurse for much of her career.

On October 10th, 1998, Vykke married the love of her life Michael Proud. They raised their two sons, Christian and Thomas Proud. Vykke was a fiercely devoted mother and wife. Her family was paramount to her. Vykke loved her family, riding in her Jeep with the music up and thrifting with her niece Julia. She was devoted to her friends and will be sorely missed by her dogs.

In 2018, Vykke’s life was forever changed after she was hit by an intoxicated driver. She survived the accident although she was not able to continue working as a nurse. Even though she was in pain, Vykke made time for her grandson, reading to him for countless hours, acted as a caretaker to her mother, and made time for her friends and family.
