Obituary of June Alice Button

June Alice Button, aged 76 years, of Winamac, Indiana was received in Heaven by her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana.  She was born on June 15, 1946 in LaPorte, Indiana to the late Cecil Bryant and Clara Maxine [Radtke] Button. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister, Frances K. Marcotte, brother-in-Law, Gail B. Thompson, Jr. and her nephew Benjamin Marcotte. 

June, lovingly known as “Junebug”, was deeply dedicated to her family, friends and the community of Winamac, Indiana. She is survived by her loving family including sister, Sharon J. Thompson of Columbus, Ohio, brother, James L. (Esther) Button of Stewart, Tennessee, Goddaughter and niece Jennie L. (James) Frederick, nieces: Tishia L. (Jon) Drummond, Kelly (Jeremy) Browning, Brandie (Kevin) Marcotte, Briana N. Marcotte, Alisha (Dave) Holder, Emily (Eric) Jones and nephews: Christopher Button, Bryant (Jill) Marcotte, Brenton Marcotte, Brock Marcotte, Bronson (Nicole) Marcotte.  June was also a great aunt and a great great aunt! June loved her family so deeply and desired only their love and comradery in return. Her family are better people for having had the benefit of June in their lives. 

As a child, June attended Winamac Elementary School.  She was a spirited, vivacious young girl that carried a twinkle in her eye. Junebug was a member of Indiana Rural Youth and acted as a recreational leader and vice president. She participated in 4-H as the Health and Safety Leader and Treasurer for the club.  She was also a member of FHA and acted as the Historian and Reporter. June graduated from Winamac High School on May 25, 1966. 

June was a member of the Winamac Nazarene Church where she loved being a devotional, song and recreational leader and participating in cantadas and other productions. She was also an assistant leader of NYI. June loved for her extended family to enjoy the church productions.  Her nieces and nephews loved seeing Aunt Junebug up front performing!

June’s first job out of high school was for Tee-Pak where she was a catcher and inspector.  The company moved in 1978 so she went on to work at the Occupational Development Center as a receptionist while cooking at Canterbury Manor nursing home.  She then worked at CETA in Pulaski County performing county highway cleaning and maintenance and later joined the team at the Shirt Shed where she worked as a printer. June was a valued employee and received rave reviews by all her employers. Throughout her adult life, June also spent time working as a home health aide. She was a sought-after caregiver who put her heart and soul into caring for her clients. This work was truly a passion for her. 

June was a gifted cake baker and decorator!  She baked her divine cakes from scratch and was famous for her red velvet and pistachio goods. June enjoyed baking for the public but the whole family kept her busy, as well, for special occasions and celebrations to which she delighted in fulfilling. She always delivered those delicious creations with a smile and heaps of love, traveling for hours at times to get them to their destination. 

June was an avid traveler who embarked on many adventures. She loved to fish and tried lobster fishing in Maine, crab hunting in Maryland, shrimp fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and deep-sea fishing in Kona, Hawaii. She also trekked to Mexico and Europe to explore and enjoy the scenery. 

June was an active member of United Singles and the Red Hat Society. She was also a volunteer at Pulaski County Human Services where she helped found the Visually Impaired Persons Group. 

Our June was a community driven person and truly loved people for who they were.  She loved sequins and pretty things but where people were concerned she looked at their soul. She could always be relied upon if a friend or family needed an ear or a dose of honesty.  She was one of a kind and will be desperately missed but her family will carry her torch! We love you (aunt) Junebug!

Visitation will be from 11 AM – 2PM EST Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM EST Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac with Pastor Martin Burns officiating. 

Burial will take place at Mt. Zion-Franklin Twp. Cemetery in Winamac, Indiana. 

Memorial Contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.
