Obituary of Richard Earl McIlvain Sr.

Richard Earl “Rich” McIlvain, Sr., 75, of Winamac, IN (formerly of Medaryville, IN) passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023 at his residence.  He was born on May 16, 1948 in Logansport, IN to the late Roy L. “Paw” and Dorothy R. “Nan” [Schultz] McIlvain, Sr.  Rich graduated from Medaryville High School in 1966.  On November 19, 1999, he married Jan Renee Hansell in Crown Point, IN.  Rich retired from Bethlehem Steel where he had worked for over 30 years.   He served on the Medaryville White Post Fire Department for over two decades. 

Rich was a longtime member of the Winamac FOE #2580.  He was an outdoors man and avid fisherman.  Rich was known to keep wild and undomesticated animals around.  He enjoyed floating the river, camping, racing of all kinds, motor cycle rides, and playing pool.  He especially enjoyed tinkering on antique cars and old hit & miss motors.  Rich could fix or build anything!  He was an awesome husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.   He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be from 5-9 PM EST Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, IN.  An Eagle’s Service will be held at 7 PM at the funeral home Thursday night. 

Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM EST Friday, December 1, 2023 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, IN with Pastor Tom Dewlen officiating. 

Cremation will take place at Frain Crematory in Winamac, IN.
